Around 100,000 Russian troops line up across the Ukraine border. Nato is scrambling to deal with it. And Putin is chuckling at the west's failure. Why
An invasion of Ukraine not only warns of continued conquest but also establishes Russia once again as a powerful eastern power.
Why Ukraine
Well why exactly Putin plans to invade is an unknown (even amongst his own generals). Since Putin is basically a dictator though, no reason is required.
There are many reasons we can assume why though. Russia may be large, but it certainly isn’t plentiful. Only its farthest western parts can produce and comfortably support life. Ukraine on the contrary is very plentiful (compared to Russia). The Soviet Union knew this which is why it was one of its most beneficial “republics”. Now that it is free, Ukraine is no doubt a pain on Putin’s side as it drifts more and more towards the West and eventually possibly join NATO. So what does an evil, disgusting, psychopath like Putin do? Line up an entire army across their shared border and threaten a possible apocalyptic world war.
All Hat, No Cattle?
An invasion of a somewhat advanced country like Ukraine would be bloody and expensive. Plus unfavorable results could result in Putin’s position being questioned. On top of that, once the first Russian troop touches Ukrainian soil, the rest of the world will immediately shut it out economically. Such a controversial war, internally and externally, would destroy the Russian economy.
Considering this, Putin’s decisions may simply be a bluff. He did present demands to NATO and in return, he promised not to invade. These demands asked that NATO would demilitarize Eastern Europe and that they would never admit Ukraine into the organization. These demands were rejected.
Should We Be Worried
Most American military experts who specialize in Russian conflict agree that the Ukrainian invasion will most likely not amount to much, but I believe we must always be prepared and unwavering when faced with adversity. To do this we need a strong and confident leader which sadly I don’t think we’re quite getting in ole Joe.
